Simultaneous equation can be represented with the unknown variable x and there is several ways to solve for x.

How to solve for x: -

i)     If x + a = 0 then subtract both sides by a you will get the value of x = -a
For example; x + 5 = 0, therefore x + 5 – 5 = 0 – 5, so, x = -5

ii)    If x – a = 0 then add both sides a, you will get x = a
For example; x – 2 = 0, gives x = 2

iii)   Similarly if x + a = b then subtract both sides by 5 to get x = b – a
And if x – a = b then add a both sides, you will get x = b + a

For example find the value of x for a linear equation x + 3 = 2
X +3 = 2, so x = 2 – 3 = -1. Therefore x = -1

If x – 9 = 10, find x.
X – 9 = 10, so x = 10 + 9 = 19. Therefore x = 19.

iv)    If a x = b then divide both sides by a to get the value of x as x = b / a.
For example; If 2x = 4, find the value of x.
2 x = 4 then 2 x / 2 = 4 / 2 which gives x = 2.
Therefore x = 2
