It is used for the expansion of expressions. If some expression is raised to a larger power like 10, 20… then it is difficult to simplify that. Hence we use this binomial theorem.

Pascal’s triangle:

Example 1: Expand (y² + 2)³ using Binomial theorem.
Answer:
Compare (y² + 2)³ with (x+a)n
Here x = y², a= 2 and n= 3
(y² + 2)³ = (1).8 + (3).4y² + (3).2y4 + (1).y6
(y² + 2)³ = 8 + 12y² + 6y4 + y6
