Median is the central value of a data set which divides the data set into two equal halves. At first we will arrange the data in ascending or descending order then we will take the middle value as a median.
 ·        For an Array with an odd number of terms, the median is the middle number.
·         For an array with an even number of terms, the median is the average of the two middle numbers.
 
Steps to find the median: -

Step 1: Arrange the observations in an ordered data array.
Step 2: For an odd number of terms, find the middle term of the ordered array. It is the median.
Step 3: For an even number of terms, find the average of the middle two terms. This average is the median.
 

Example: A business researcher wants to determine the median for the following numbers.
15        11        14        3          21        17        22        5          7          8          9
 

Solution: - Arranges the numbers in an ordered array.
3          5          7          8          9          11        14        15        17        21        22
Because the array contain 11 terms (an odd number of terms), the median is the middle number, or 11
3          5          7          8          9          11       14        15        17        21        22
 

Example 2: -Take the same above example and eliminate the number 22 from the list, the array would contain only 10 terms (an even number of terms).
3          5          7          8          9          11        14        15        17        21
Now, for an even number of terms, the statistician determines the median by averaging the two middle values 9 and 11.
Median= (9+11)/2= 10
